Red Grace

The layering of paint on skin and paint on photo.

This body of work is titled Red Grace, after a type of peony a flower known to represent female beauty but also shame. The figure is camouflaged with paint layered on the body and on the printed image. The figure poses like a venus or martyred saint. Her face is obscured by her own hands or scribbled out.  She exposes and hides herself, is guilty but defiant.
